The following guests will today attend the christening of Prince Louis at The Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace:

-   The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall
-   The Duke and Duchess of Sussex
-   Mr. and Mrs. Michael Middleton, Mr. and Mrs. James Matthews, and Mr. James Middleton
-   The godparents of Prince Louis and their spouses

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have asked the following people to be godparents to Prince Louis, all of whom are friends or family of Their Royal Highnesses:

-   Mr. Nicholas van Cutsem
-   Mr. Guy Pelly
-   Mr. Harry Aubrey-Fletcher
-   The Lady Laura Meade
-   Mrs. Robert Carter
-   Miss Lucy Middleton

Prince Louis will wear the handmade replica of the Royal Christening Robe, made by Angela Kelly, Dressmaker to The Queen.

The Lily Font and water from the River Jordan will be used during the baptism.

Following the service, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will give a private tea at Clarence House. Guests will be served slices of christening cake, which is a tier taken from The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding cake.

The Royal Christening Robe
The Royal Christening Robe, of fine Honiton lace lined with white satin, was made in 1841 for the christening of Queen Victoria's eldest daughter, Victoria, Princess Royal.

The original gown was subsequently worn for all Royal christenings, including The Queen, her children and her grandchildren, until the youngest of The Queen's eight grandchildren, James, Viscount Severn.

The Queen commissioned Angela Kelly to make a hand-made replica of the Royal Christening Robe in order to preserve the original. James, Viscount Severn, was the first member of the Royal Family to wear this replica gown at his christening at the private chapel at Windsor Castle on 19th April 2008.

The Lily Font
The Lily Font is a silver baptismal font which was commissioned by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1840 after the birth of their first child, Victoria, Princess Royal. It was first used at The Princess Royal’s christening in 1841 and has been a feature of Royal christenings since then.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s Wedding Cake
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding cake, designed by Fiona Cairns, was made from 17 individual fruit cakes and had eight tiers. The cake was decorated with cream and white icing using the Joseph Lambeth technique. There were up to 900 individually iced flowers and leaves of 17 different varieties decorated on the cake. A garland design around the middle of the cake matched the architectural garlands decorated around the top of the Picture Gallery in Buckingham Palace, the room in which the cake was displayed during the wedding.

ダイアナ妃が洗礼された場所でもあるけれど、
それより、
この頃、ここが拠点だったから
という理由の方が濃厚な気がする。

そして、第三子
ルイ王子も、再び
セントジェームズパレスの礼拝堂で。

ここは、
ダイアナ元妃の遺体が
ウェストミンスター寺院でのお葬式まで
安置されていた場所ということで、

それまでの君主は
バッキンガムパレスでの洗礼式
ということもあり、

ジョージ王子の洗礼式で、
ここを選ばれた際、
当時、話題になりました。

そして、
この場所といえば、
メーガン妃がハリー王子との結婚前
イングランド国教会へ改宗のための
洗礼をされた場所でもありました。

WHO ARE PRINCE LOUIS' GODPARENTS?

THE LADY LAURA MEADE

Lady Laura Meade is the wife of James Meade, another Old Etonian and fast friend of Wills', who was asked to make a speech at the royal wedding and is godfather to Louis' big sister, Princess Charlotte.

William was again asked to be an usher when Laura and James tied the knot in 2013, and Kate, Prince Harry and Kate's younger sister Pippa were all among the congregation.

Laura, from Norfolk, is the daughter of the Earl and Countess of Romney, and she and her siblings are close to the Middletons as well as the Prince.

Before they married and settled down, Kate and William and Laura and James were regulars at the Cuckoo Club in Piccadilly.

HARRY AUBREY-FLETCHER

Prince Louis’ godfather Harry Aubrey-Fletcher is one of William's oldest friends, having attended both Ludgrove prep school and Eton with the Prince.

Kate joined William at Harry's wedding to Louise Stourton in January 2011, just four months before the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s own nuptials.

Prince William was an usher at the ceremony, held at Aldborough Parish Church in Boroughbridge, West Yorkshire.

Harry is the youngest son of Sir Henry Aubrey-Fletcher, 8th Baronet and Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire. His similarly blue-blooded wife, who will also attend Prince Louis' christening, is the eldest daughter of Edward Stourton, the 24th Baron Stourton, 28th Baron Segrave, 27th Baron Mowbray.

NICHOLAS VAN CUTSEM

Major Nicholas van Cutsem has been firm friends of the Prince of Wales and his sons for years.

His daughter, Grace, stole the show at the 2011 Royal wedding when she covered her ears on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

Nicholas serves with the Household Cavalry and led the escort accompanying the Prince’s Royal Wedding carriage.

He is married to Alice van Cutsem, with the pair wedded in 2009.

GUY PELLY

Mr Pelly has been in part of Harry and William's inner circle since their teenage years.

He is known for running celebrity nightclub, Tonteria, in Chelsea, South-West London, a favourite old haunt of Harry during his partying years.

The entrepreneur has also been involved with Mahiki, Whisky Mist and Public over the years.

He welcomed his first child, a little girl Willow Elizabeth, with his Holiday Inn heiress wife Lizzy Wilson last summer.

LUCY MIDDLETON

Bristol graduate Lucy, 32, is the Duchess of Cambridge's cousin and works as a solicitor in London specialising in media litigation for Atkins Thomson.

She is said to be close to the Duchess, and the pair spent their gap year together in Florence.

Lucy was studying Italian and Catherine to join her.

HANNAH CARTER (MRS ROBERT CARTER)

Hannah and Kate attended Marlborough College together, where they played on several of the same sports teams.

Kate's sister Pippa was a couple of years below Kate at the same school and also played sports.

Why did William and Kate chose St James's Palace for Louis' christening?

Prince George was the first future monarch in modern times not to be baptised at Buckingham Palace, with the Cambridges choosing the intimate Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace instead.

And today William and Kate chose the same venue for the christening of their youngest child, Prince Louis, who was born in April.

Princess Charlotte repeated history by being christened in the Church of St Mary Magdalene in Sandringham.

The last great-granddaughter of a serving sovereign to be born in direct succession on the male line - Princess Mary - was also baptised in the same church 118 years ago in 1897.

St Mary Magdalene was also where Charlotte’s late grandmother, Diana, Princess of Wales, was christened on August 30, 1961.

Other notable christenings at the church include Princess Charlotte’s great-great-grandfather King George VI in 1896. The Duke of Cambridge’s cousin Princess Eugenie - the daughter of the Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York - was also baptised there in 1990.

Royal christenings are usually private affairs and most royal babies have been christened at royal palaces.

William and the Prince of Wales were both christened in Buckingham Palace’s Music Room. The Queen, then Princess Elizabeth, was christened in the Palace’s private chapel in 1926.

Louis' older brother Prince George was also baptised in October 2013 at the Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace. William and Kate made a 'personal decision' to hold the ceremony there.

It was where the coffin of William’s mother Diana lay before her funeral to allow her family to pay their last respects.

A ROYAL TRADITION: HOW LOUIS'S BAPTISM WILL FOLLOW RULES PASSED DOWN THE GENERATIONS

Royal christenings are steeped in tradition, with customs passed down through the generations.

When Prince Louis is baptised later today at the Chapel Royal, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expected to keep to convention.

Louis is expected to wear the royal christening robe - a replica of the original Honiton lace and satin robe made in 1841 for Queen Victoria's eldest daughter.

The new robe was created by the Queen's dresser Angela Kelly.

The original cream lace and white satin robe was last used in 2004 and is too delicate to be worn.

Prince Harry has spent £8,000 on a first edition Winnie The Pooh as a gift for his nephew Louis' christening today

The flame-haired royal has splashed out £8,000 on a 1926 first edition version of the A.A. Milne book - of which 30,000 were printed in the first run, The Sun reports.

He is understood to have made the purchase from rare book seller Peter Harrington in Kensington, London.

A friend told the newspaper: 'One of Harry's happiest childhood memories was being read a bedtime story by his mother.

'She loved all the classics and Harry had the brilliant idea of starting a little library of first editions.'

It is thought the newlywed originally considered buying Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking Glass, priced at £24,000 but decided Winnie the Pooh would be more suitable.

The same friend told The Sun Prince Harry was a big fan of books as a youngster, devouring anything A.A. Milne but his favourite was Robinson Crusoe
