The Earl and Countess of Strathearn continued their tour of Scotland with a trip to Orkney, a panoramic archipelago off the northeastern Scottish coast. The couple were spotted boarding a helicopter at the the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh this morning.

first official visit to Orkney. Addressing the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland at the weekend, Prince William remarked, "Catherine and I are looking forward to going to Orkney...I understand it will be the very first visit by a Lord High Commissioner." He added he hoped "the weather plays ball". Kensington Palace said the couple were looking forward to "celebrating individuals who have gone above and beyond to support their communities over the past year."

Open New Hospital in Orkney' The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have officially opened the Orkney Islands' new £65 million hospital. William and Kate were greeted with cheers and rounds of applause from well-wishers and nurses as they began their first official visit to the remote Scottish archipelago. The couple are touring Scotland as part of William’s role as Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.

'Call Me Catherine' - Kate Middleton Charms Young Children During Orkney Marine Visit' The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took a boat trip together when they visited the Marine Energy Centre during their visit to Orkney. After the couple's boat trip, they met a group of young children, when a small boy asked Kate if she was a Prince, she replied that she was the Duchess of Cambridge but "lots of people call me Catherine". 'Are you the prince?' The nursery school children who made the royals chuckle

Prince William, 38, and Kate, 39, were greeted by the local nursery school children at Kirkwall Marina after a visit to the European Marine Energy Centre.

At one point a confident little boy pointed at the Duchess and asked: 'Are you the prince?,' prompting her to lean down and respond: 'No, I'm not the prince, I'm the Duchess of Cambridge... Lots of people call me Catherine.'

Moving down the row, Kate asked a little girl: 'Are you a princess?' When the shy little girl looked down and said 'no'. Kate continued: 'Well you look like one in your beautiful pink coat.'

The mother-of-three then turned to the wider group to say: 'It's very nice to meet you. Have you been having a look at all the boats?'

At the same time Prince William was busy speaking to the children at the other end of the line - at one point kicking up his feet to compare shoes
