『It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

日本時間、夜飛び込んだ悲しいニュース
ついに、、、、、この日が来てしまった。
思い返せば
2月に急遽入院をされ
過去最長の入院生活にざわざわするも
持病の治療と発表され
その後は、病院を移転
心臓の手術をされ、また元の病院へ。
そして、
28日間の入院生活先月、退院された時には、ほっと一安心。
6月の、100歳のお誕生日を、
本当に楽しみに、心待ちにしていた。
しかし、あと2ヶ月というところで
残念ながら、ご逝去。
考えてみれば、
そんな病状や体調、もちろんご高齢は言うまでもないが
それで手術とは、すごいのではないか。
希望があったに違いない。
最後まで強く逞しく、
生きることに立ち向かわれた、
エディンバラ公らしい、最後だ。

8年の交際の末、
周囲の反対をも乗り越え、ご結婚。
君主の王配として、

2017年にリタイアされた時点で
800以上もの、
パトロン、プレジデント、メンバーであった。
5500のスピーチをされてきたそう。
エリザベス女王に同行され
コモンウェルス・ツアーに公式訪問など
世界143ヵ国をご訪問。
ドイツ語とフランス語も堪能らしい。
そしてなにより、
結婚生活は、73年と、
これももちろん、これまでの王室君主の中で最長。
これがお二人の全てを物語っている気がする。
うまく言えないけど、、
クイーンと王配であると同時に
1組のカップルとして
理想的、いや、世界が学ぶべきご夫妻
というような。。。
リタイア後はもっぱら
ノーフォーク州、サンドリンガムのウッド・ファームで
女王とは別に生活をされ
自由な時間と自由な行動に夢中になられ
そういえば、度を超えて
大好きなお車の運転が
交通事故に繋がったこともありましたねえ。。
時に、ストレートでお口が悪く（笑）
そんなところが実は国民に愛されていて
女王も、きっと同様で
加えて、ユーモアのセンス。
女王を唯一笑わせる人
とかつて言われていた。
自由を謳歌されていた最中のコロナ禍
ご高齢のご夫妻の
感染リスクを少しでも回避するため
側近を最少人数にし
生活拠点も、ウィンザー城の一箇所に。
と、ご夫妻での生活が余儀なくされた形になったとも言えるけれど
私は、この時、正直
きっとこれはご夫妻へのギフト
のように感じた。
エディンバラ公にとっては？？だけど
少なくとも、女王にとっては
きっと嬉しかったのではないかと、、、推測する。
今となっては特に。
残された女王にとっては
最後の時間をご一緒に過ごされたことは
本当に良かった、とお感じではないのかな、、、
そう願う。
逝去を受けての
ボリスジョンソン首相のコメントにもあったように、
'Speaking on their golden wedding anniversary, Her Majesty said that our country owed her husband 'a greater debt than he would ever claim or we shall ever know' and I am sure that estimate is correct So we mourn today with Her Majesty The Queen.'
女王が誰よりも、エディンバラ公の功績や偉大さをご存知だった。
それは、逆も然り
エディンバラ公も同様に
誰より、女王の理解者であった。
年数もだけれど、それ以上に、、、考えれば考えるほど
こんなラブストーリーがあったのだろうか、
とさえ思う。
そんなことを考えながら、書いていると
他国の日本人の私でさえ、
涙してしまうのが不思議。。
親の死の時にも涙しなかったのにな、、、
それだけに、エリザベス女王のご様子が気になるところではあるけれど。
何より、何度も書いていたが、
ここのところ、すでに女王がお痩せになっていたから。。
女王はもちろん、
ロイヤルファミリーの皆様は
喪に服され、
一方で、バッキンガムパレスは
エディンバラ公の葬儀の準備に。
エディンバラ公の希望でもあったようですが
大げさではなく、
コロナ禍も手伝って
ウィンザー城のStジェームズ教会で行われる模様。

100歳のお誕生日を、本当に楽しみにしていたのだけれど

On Saturday, 10th April at 1200, a Death Gun Salute will be fired to mark the death of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Across the United Kingdom, in Gibraltar and on Her Majesty’s Ships at sea, 41 rounds will be fired at one round every minute for 40 minutes. The Gun Salutes will be broadcast online and on television, and members of the public are encouraged to watch from home.
In London, The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery will use the same guns that were fired for Her Majesty The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh’s Wedding in 1947, and at The Queen’s Coronation in 1953.
The tradition of Gun Salutes being fired throughout the country to mark significant national events dates back to at least the eighteenth century, and there are historical records of salutes taking place as early as the 14th century when guns and ammunition began to be adopted more widely. Similar gun salutes were fired to mark the death of Queen Victoria in 1901.
Boris Johnson addressed the nation outside No 10 Downing Street and said:
'We give thanks, as a nation and a kingdom, for the extraordinary life and work of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh'.
'Speaking on their golden wedding anniversary, Her Majesty said that our country owed her husband 'a greater debt than he would ever claim or we shall ever know' and I am sure that estimate is correct So we mourn today with Her Majesty The Queen.'
'We remember the duke for all of this and above all for his steadfast support for Her Majesty the Queen. Not just as her consort, by her side every day of her reign, but as her husband, her 'strength and stay', of more than 70 years.
'And it is to Her Majesty, and her family, that our nation's thoughts must turn today. Because they have lost not just a much-loved and highly respected public figure, but a devoted husband and a proud and loving father, grandfather and, in recent years, great-grandfather.' Mr Johnson also praised his Duke of Edinburgh scheme, which has 'shaped and inspired the lives of countless young people'.
