William and Kate worked alongside NHS Charities Together and Tayside Health Fund to provide a traditional supper of haggis, neeps and tatties to two hundred frontline workers caring for patients in Dundee

少し遡うことになりますが

ウィリアム王子＆キャサリン妃ご夫妻が、

Zoomを介して

スコットランドはダンディーの医療従事者達とミーティング

といっても、この日はちょっといつもと違い。

というのも、1月25日は

スコットランドにとってスペシャルな日

18世紀の代表する、スコットランドの詩人

《ロバート・バーンズ》

の生涯と功績をたたえ、生誕の日を

“バーンズ・ナイト”と称して、

伝統的料理でお祝いをするのだそうです。

コロナ禍に状況下、そんな日にも

日夜問わず働き続ける、医療の現場に人達を想い、そして感謝の気持ちとともに

ご夫妻が“NHS CharitiesTogether”と組み、

ロイヤルワラントホルダーの企業の寄付も募り

この日、

ダンディーの町の患者さんたちを世話する

200人の医療従事者の皆さんへ

ハギスとニープス＆タティーズ

を提供されました。

これらは、スコティッシュのソウルフードともいえるものなんだが

私ダメでえ、、、、、

食わず嫌いと偏食気味(米だけで良いという)だから、

当然とも言えるんだが

いかんせん、見た目がなんだかコワイ。

羊の内臓を胃袋に詰めて、ミンチにしたものを

香味野菜やハーブ、オートミールなどと一緒に蒸した料理

と、知ってもコワイ（笑）

いえ、美味しいんですよ、好きな人には

(当たり前)

とにかく、私にとってのソウルフードがたこ焼きなように（笑）

スコティッシュにはこれなわけです。

働き詰めの最中少しでもこのお祝いの日を感じ、

少しでも楽しい時間を過ごせるようにという

お2人とか変わった人達の想いですねえ。

というわけで、Zoom画面の向こうに映る

皆さんの机の上には、大きなボックスやハギスなどの伝統料理が。

そして、ご夫妻がメッセージを。

まずはウィリアム王子が口火を切り、

W「ハロー、皆さん。世界中のスコットランド人にとって、バーンズナイトはスペシャルな夜ですね。一緒に集まって飲み、食べ、そしてロバート・バーンズの人生や功績を祝うときです。」

C「悲しいことに、今年は少し状況が違っています。そして、このパンデミックの中、最も脆弱な人々を守るため休みなく働き続けている、前線で働く多くの人々にとって、今夜はとても異なるものとなるでしょう。」

W「私たちからの感謝の証しとして、NHS Charities Togetherと組み、貴方たちへハギス・ディナーを贈ります。」

C「皆さんが楽しんでくれることを願い、そして良き日が少しでも早く訪れることを、共に心待ちにしましょう。」

William said,

"Hello to everyone at NHS Tayside. We know Burns Night is a special evening for Scots around the world. A time to come together to eat, drink and to celebrate the life and work of Robert Burns."

The Duchess added,

"Sadly this year is a little different. And for many of you working on the frontline, tonight will be a very different occasion, as you work tirelessly through this pandemic to protect the most vulnerable in our society."

William continued,

"As a token of our appreciation, we've teamed up with NHS Charities Together to provide you with a Haggis dinner." Kate said, "We hope you enjoy it and look forward to better times together soon."

では、この日のキャサリン妃ファッション〜！

言わずもがなの、スコットランドを意識されたお洋服ですね。

赤をベースに、白や黒(グリーンも？)がモダンなタータンチェックに

白襟が効いたドレス、、

と言いそうになるが、実は違うんだなー、これ。

思い返せば、このお洋服を最初にお披露目されたのは

2018年12月

ケンジントンパレスでのクリスマスパーティーの際

スカートを着用され、注目を集めました。

その後、翌年

2019年のクリスマスランチにご一家で向かわれる際の

お車からのチラ見

それゆえ、

明らかに可愛い❤️と思っても、見えずじまい。

ワンピかと思いきや、

初お披露目の時のスカートと、

どうやらセットアップ

そして、その次が

記憶に新しい、昨年12月のロイヤルトレイン・ツアー。

真っ赤のコートの下に合わされていたのが、

同素材のスカート。

この時で既に、スカートの着用は、３度目ということになりますね〜

そして今回

ブラウスは２度目で、スカートは４度目ということに。

上下で着るとドレスのようにも見えて

イメージが変わる優れもの。

単品で着回しも効くしね〜

これは良いお買い物だわ〜❤️

しかも、スカーフにマスクも

同素材、もしくは同柄でお持ちと

キャサリン妃も大のお気に入りなのでしょう。

私もです❤️

なんなら欲しかった、、、どれか。

特にマスク。当然の即完売

まだ、全身では見れないものの、じわじわ近づいてますw

Neeps are better known as swedes and tatties are potatoes

《Robert Burns》was born in 1759 in Alloway, Scotland.

Like his father, he was a tenant farmer. Throughout his life his passion was poetry and his talent capturing aspects of his own life and larger societal and religious issues.

The Poetry Foundation shared an excerpt from a letter the poet wrote in 1786.

"I am in a fair way of becoming as eminent as Thomas a Kempis or John Bunyan; and you may expect henceforth to see my birthday inserted among the wonderful events, in the Poor Robin's and Aberdeen Almanacks and by all probability I shall soon be the tenth Worthy, and the eighth Wise Man, of the world."

チャールズ皇太子もこの日を祝し、詩を朗読されました。

During virtual celebrations with the Robert Burns World Federation, The Prince recited one of Burns’ most famous poems, Auld Lang Syne.

HRH described the poem as “words which have become a symbol of fellowship the world over - and never has that sense of connection been more important than now.”

『Holocaust Memorial Day』

To mark Holocaust Memorial Day,

the Duchess of Cambridge spoke to survivors and Holocaust Educational Trust’s youth ambassadors.

The call took place last Tuesday according to the Court Circular. During the conversation, the importance of "remembering the atrocities committed during the Holocaust, and of championing younger generations to ensure that the stories of survivors continue to be shared into the future" was discussed

キャサリン妃がお一人で、Zoom公務に登場された動画が公開。

（撮影は19日、先週火曜日らしい）

生存者の方々や、

”Holocaust Educational Trust”

（ホロコースト教育トラスト）

の若きアンバサダー達とミーティング。

ホロコーストについてや、今日学ぶべき重要な教訓を、

全ての若者達に教育することを目的とする

ロンドン拠点のチャリティ基金。

この日出席された、2名の生存者の方といえば

キャサリン妃＆ウィリアム王子が

2017年、ポーランドを公式訪問された際

シュトゥットホーフ強制収容所

（ナチス・ドイツがダンツィヒの東36キロほどのシュトゥットホーフに建てた強制収容所）

でお会いになった方達。

「私はとても嬉しかったです。貴方の夫は必要なく、私が会いたかったのは貴方なんです。」

と、キャサリン妃にジョークも（笑）

大笑いしながらも、上手くフォローされたキャサリン妃。

「ウィリアムには、貴方がとても残念がっていたと伝えます！彼が貴方に宜しくと言っていたようにね。」

さすがでございます。

平和的な収め方❤️

皆さんで、

ホロコーストの残虐行為を忘れないこと、そして生存者が語る物語を、必ず若き世代も未来にまでシェアし続けていくよう支援していくことの重要性について話し合われました。

そういえば、ちょうど一年前には

キャサリン妃が、生存者の方々を撮影されましたね〜〜！

フェルメールからインスパイアされた、

素敵な写真でしたね。

また、同年（昨年）

ご夫妻で、記念式典にも出席されました。

では、この時のキャサリン妃ファッション〜！

最近、このイヤリングが頻繁に登場してますね〜

確かに使いやすい。

🕯️ On #HolocaustMemorialDay we commemorate and honour the victims and survivors of the Holocaust, and of recent genocides.

Later today we will share a special conversation between The Duchess and Holocaust survivors Zigi Shipper and Manfred Goldberg, who The Duke and Duchess met at Stutthof in 2017, and youth ambassadors from the Holocaust Educational Trust (@holocaustuk).

As young boys, Zigi and Manfred both spent time in ghettos and a number of labour and concentration camps, including the Nazi German camp Stutthof in occupied Poland where they met for the first time in 1944, and remain friends to this day.

Of the 110,000 men, women and children who were imprisoned in the camp during the Holocaust, as many as 65,000 lost their lives - including 28,000 Jews.

Together on 27 January, the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp, we bear witness for those who endured genocide, and honour the survivors and all those whose lives were changed beyond recognition.

Established in 1988, the Holocaust Educational Trust (HET) works in schools, universities and local communities in order to educate young people from all backgrounds about the Holocaust and the vital lessons learnt from this period of history. "

Kate told Zigi and Manfred,

"I will never forget the first time when we met in 2017 and your stories have stuck with me since then. It's important that these stories are passed on to the next generation." She also praised the survivors during a conversation with youth ambassadors. "We all have a role to play; all generations have a role to play in making sure the stories that we have heard from Zigi and Manfred today live on and ensure that the lessons that we have learnt are not repeated in history for future generations. I am really glad there is the younger generation flying the flag for this work."

After meeting in the concentration camps, Manfred and Zigi have remained friends for years and have continued to share their stories to educate younger people about the Holocaust

The 2017 return to Stutthof marked the first time they had been there since the end of the war. Mr Goldberg said, "For me it is quite a seismic event because, since I was permitted to come to England in September 1946, I have not set foot in either Germany or Poland. I decided that I really had to face the past and hence my consent to come." Mr. Shipper shared some of his heartbreaking experiences. "I said to my friends I can't walk, they said they'll help me, that was him and other people like that. Had it not been for them, I would not have been here today. I wouldn't have survived. They said, 'You know what will happen to you if you don't walk? They will shoot you.' I said, 'But I can't walk.' They said, 'We'll help you.'"

What is Holocaust Memorial Day?

Every January on Holocaust Memorial Day, the world remembers the six million Jews and millions of other minorities who were killed during the genocide of World War II.

As directed by Hitler’s Nazi party, the Holocaust, also known as the Shoah in Hebrew, is a term to describe the genocide of Jews and other minorities during World War II.

January 27, 1945 is the day the Auschwitz concentration camp in modern-day Poland was liberated by the Soviets.

With the Soviets arriving nearly eight months before the war ended, many had been sent out on a death march and 7,000 sick and dying people remained.

In the five years that Auschwitz was open, an estimated 1.1 million people were killed at the concentration camp. 90 percent were Jewish and the rest were a mix of Romany people, Soviets and Poles.

One in six Jews killed in World War II died at Auschwitz after being brought to the camp across Europe by train.

By the end of the Holocaust, six million Jewish men, women and children died in ghettos, mass-shootings, in concentration camps and extermination camps.

Studies have also revealed that the true death toll could be as many as 20 million people.

All over the world, commemorative events will take place to mark Holocaust Memorial Day, but also subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur are remembered to try and end racial violence once and for all.

Kate Middleton and Prince William faced the horror of the Holocaust during 2017 visit to Poland

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge described their visit to a Nazi concentration camp in Poland in 2017 as 'shattering', and said the site is a 'terrible reminder of the cost of war'.

Kate and William visited the former Stutthof camp in northern Poland where 65,000 people died during Germany's occupation in the Second World War from disease, malnutrition, physical exhaustion, exposure to the harsh climate and abuse from guards - as well as in the gas chamber used to murder those too sick to work, opposite a brick crematorium.

Both bowed their heads as they were shown inside the room, which was used to burn the bodies of thousands of victims and Prince William - who was visibly moved - was overheard apologising to the museum director for asking 'so many questions' as they exited they crematorium.

Surrounded by a wire fence and watchtowers, the stark wooden barrack blocks that housed inmates in cramped conditions still stand while personal possessions, from combs and children's dolls have been turned into exhibits in memory of those who perished at the camp almost seven decades ago, alongside portraits drawn by artists incarcerated during the Holocaust.

The royals were shown discarded shoes and clothing seized from prisoners on arrival at the camp and the impact of the visit was clear from the heartfelt message the couple left in the visitors' book before leaving.

'This shattering visit has reminded us of the horrendous murder of six million Jews, drawn from across the whole of Europe, who died in the abominable Holocaust,' they wrote. 'All of us have an overwhelming responsibility to make sure that we learn the lessons and that the horror of what happened is never forgotten and never repeated.'

After a guided tour of the camp, 20 miles from Gdansk, they had an emotional meeting with Zigi and Manfred, who were both making their first return to the camp since moving to Britain after the war.

Zigi said William and Kate - who declared they were 'honoured' to have met the pair - were clearly 'very moved' by what they saw, adding: 'You could see their faces. They were in pain.'

Exactly one year ago, it was revealed the Duchess had photographed two Holocaust survivors, Steven Frank and Yvonne Bernstein, with their grandchildren.

The portraits were part of an exhibition which brought together 75 images of survivors with their loved ones to mark the 75th anniversary of the end of the Holocaust
