『The Duke and Duchess Cambridge joined veterans for a very special VE (Victory in Europe) Day party』
＠ the Royal British Legion’s Mais House Care Home.

On Wednesday morning, 
the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge spoke to veterans and staff at Mais House care home. 

The footage was shared on tonight's BBC coverage just ahead of the Queen's historic speech.

Today is the 75th anniversary of the end of World War Two in Europe. 

To mark the Victory in Europe anniversary,
the Duke and Duchess did a video call with veterans at the Royal British Legion’s Mais House Care Home.

The duke and duchess dialled into the care home last week to hear stories from the veterans who served in the Second World War and had vivid VE Day memories.

They spoke to four veterans including 101-year-old Charles Ward, who served in the Special Operations Executive and passed on encrypted messages from Winston Churchill, as well as staff.

Explaining how he ended the war as a sergeant stationed in Greece, Mr Ward said:  “VE Day was very good – I had to go round and give all the men a drink of rum.”

“I bet you were the hero of the time there,” the Duke told him, laughing.

Mr. Ward, as well as Jean, the youngest veteran at the home

Speaking about her paternal grandmother Valerie Glassborow's work as a code-breaker at Bletchley Park, Kate said:

Last year Kate made a return visit to Bletchley Park to mark the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings. In a foreword for the 2016 puzzle book produced by GCHQ, the UK’s Signals Intelligence and Cyber Security agency, the Duchess wrote: 

"I have always been immensely proud of my grandmother, Valerie Glassborow, who worked at Bletchley Park during the Second World War. They hardly ever talked about their wartime service, but we now know just how important the men and women of Bletchley Park were, as they tackled some of the hardest problems facing the country".

集まった10万人の国民に手を振り
共にお祝いされた。

それから
75周年がたった今年同時刻（9pm〜）に
BBCを通じて
ウィンザー城で
エリザベス女王もスピーチをされた。

the Queen went on to honor those who lost their lives in the “terrible conflict.”

”VEデー”といえば思い出すのが
この日、人生で初めて
最初で最後
マーガレット王女と共に、
パレスの塀の外で出られたこと。

自分と同様、想定外の立場で思い重責を担うこととなった
娘を思い、普通ならありえない許可を。。。

歓喜に盛り上がるロンドンの街中に娘を、、、

その事実を基に、描かれた映画
『A Royal Night Out /ロイヤル・ナイト 英国王女の秘密の外出』

外出されたという史実をベースにした
フィクションなんだけど
つい、ノンフィクションだと思ってしまう
大好きな映画

The Queen was 19 years old on VE Day. More than thirty years later, she recorded her memories for a unique BBC Broadcast.

Her Majesty describes her experience of the day she joined the jubilant crowds in central London, attempting to stay anonymous by pulling her cap down over her eyes.

On VE Day at 9 pm the Queen's father addressed the nation: 

"There is great comfort in the thought that the years of darkness and danger in which the children of our country have grown up are over and, please God, forever. We shall have failed, and the blood of our dearest will have flowed in vain, if the victory which they died to win does not lead to a lasting peace, founded on justice and established in good will."

I vividly remember the jubilant scenes my sister and I witnessed with our parents and Winston Churchill from the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

'Never give up, never despair': The Queen's Speech 

The Queen paid an emotional tribute to Britain's lockdown spirit tonight with an electrifying speech on the 75th anniversary of VE Day

I speak to you today at the same hour as my father did, exactly 75 years ago.

His message then was a salute to the men and women at home and abroad who had sacrificed so much in pursuit of what he rightly called a 'great deliverance'.

The war had been a total war; it had affected everyone, and no one was immune from its impact.

Whether it be the men and women called up to serve; families separated from each other; or people asked to take up new roles and skills to support the war effort, all had a part to play.

At the start, the outlook seemed bleak, the end distant, the outcome uncertain.

But we kept faith that the cause was right - and this belief, as my father noted in his broadcast, carried us through.

Never give up, never despair - that was the message of VE Day.

I vividly remember the jubilant scenes my sister and I witnessed with our parents and Winston Churchill from the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

The sense of joy in the crowds who gathered outside and across the country was profound, though while we celebrated the victory in Europe, we knew there would be further sacrifice.

It was not until August that fighting in the Far East ceased and the war finally ended.

Many people laid down their lives in that terrible conflict.

They fought so we could live in peace, at home and abroad.

They died so we could live as free people in a world of free nations.

They risked all so our families and neighbourhoods could be safe.

We should and will remember them.

As I now reflect on my father's words and the joyous celebrations, which some of us experienced first-hand, I am thankful for the strength and courage that the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and all our allies displayed.

The wartime generation knew that the best way to honour those who did not come back from the war, was to ensure that it didn't happen again.

The greatest tribute to their sacrifice is that countries who were once sworn enemies are now friends, working side by side for the peace, health and prosperity of us all.

Today it may seem hard that we cannot mark this special anniversary as we would wish.

Instead we remember from our homes and our doorsteps.

But our streets are not empty; they are filled with the love and the care that we have for each other.

And when I look at our country today, and see what we are willing to do to protect and support one another, I say with pride that we are still a nation those brave soldiers, sailors and airmen would recognise and admire.

I send my warmest good wishes to you all.

２つのブローチ

She had chosen to wear the 18th birthday gift from her beloved Papa just weeks before VE Day itself – a pair of Boucheron aquamarine and diamond clip brooches. Before her sat her Auxiliary Territorial Service cap

The two art deco-style pieces, which the Queen wore separately in a diagonal setting, were made by Boucheron from baguette, oval and round diamonds and aquamarines.

The Queen's address was delivered to the very second that her father, George VI, gave his VE Day speech 75 years ago

Even 75 years on, there was still something electrifying, something thoroughly reassuring about those words: 'This is London. His Majesty King George VI.'

Also on the desk in the white drawing room at Windsor Castle was a framed photo of her father George VI looking serious but composed in his Admiral of the Fleet uniform with RAF Wings (pictured, the King making a speech to the nation on VE Day)

On this day in 1945, the Allied victory in Europe was confirmed. Huge crowds of over 100,000 people gathered outside Buckingham Palace to celebrate. 

The Royal Family made eight balcony appearances that day, King George VI dressed in the uniform of an Admiral of the Fleet, Princess Elizabeth in her ATS uniform, the Queen and Princess Margaret dressed in blue. This photograph of the balcony taken that day was used as the King’s Christmas card in 1945.

The Queen was surrounded by historic personal mementos from the war years as she paid emotional tribute to the wartime generation in an electrifying speech on the 75th anniversary of VE Day from Windsor Castle. To her right (1) is a picture of her father King George VI (key, the king giving the VE Day speech on May 8, 1945). Behind the Queen (2) is a framed photograph of the then Princess Elizabeth with her sister Margaret, her mother the future Queen Mother, and King George. You'll notice the Queen's ATS cap was on her desk tonight. The Queen held the rank of Second Subaltern on joining the ATS. Five months later, she was later promoted to Junior Commander, the equivalent of Captain. She is the only living Head of State to have served in the Second World War.

An 18-year-old Princess Elizabeth joined the ATS and registered as No. 230873 Second Subaltern Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor and took a driving and vehicle maintenance course at Aldershot, qualifying as a driver
