"Yesterday, The Duke and Duchess surprised their neighbours in Windsor at a coffee morning for military families in a community centre located in the heart of the Army housing estate. Every year during the month of November we pause to remember and honour all those who have served their country here in the UK, across the Commonwealth and around the world. Their Royal Highnesses also wanted to show support for the families of service personnel who are currently deployed overseas. During the visit yesterday, Their Royal Highnesses met with young families who shared their experiences as parents and as couples who are often apart from their loved ones for months at a time. A reminder that a life of service does not simply describe the person wearing the uniform, but the entire family."

Prince Harry served on overseas operations himself and knows first hand how it feels to be away from loved ones. It can be particularly difficult for families at this time of year with the festive season approaching; to help them cope, the Army offers regular events such as weekly coffee mornings to discuss and solve problems.

Harry and Meghan heard about support offered and the unique challenges facing military families

Meghan recently started taking Archie to playgroup in Windsor, it's great to see them attending engagements close to home and supporting local military families. Windsor is home to several regiments from the Household Cavalry, Welsh Guards and Coldstream Guards, with a number currently serving in Kenya on Exercise ASKARI STORM

'As parents to six-month-old Archie, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex also shared baby stories with other moms and dads. 

“My daughter Aeris is the same age as Archie and we talked about weaning and the children beginning to crawl—she’s just a normal mum and it was like talking to a friend,” Amy Thompson, whose husband Brad is attached to the Welsh Guards, told Army&You Magazine.

According to the publication, Prince Harry spoke about how difficult it can be for families while someone is away serving. 

“It’s unbelievably hard. I have so much respect and admiration for anyone who has to deal with that,” he said.

He also remarked on what it must be like for parents who are away from children.

 “I can’t imagine what it’s like to miss so much as they change so quickly,” he said.'

The annual event is a staple on Prince Harry's calendar - this year marks his 7th appearance. 
Harry took the role over from Prince Philip who served in the navy from 1939 - 1952.

As the Sussexes toured the plots Meghan crouched down to chat to 96-year-old Elizabeth Herschel who was sat in a wheelchair and proudly wore the Second World War medals of her husband Stanley, a former Royal Engineer, and her own medals from her time with the Auxiliary Territorial Service during the same conflict.

Mrs Herschel said she joked with Harry, whom she met at the same event in 2018: 'I told him last year he would have a boy then a girl and I'm right so far.'

She also offered him some advice after his recent public issues with the press and admission he has 'good days' and 'bad days' with his brother the Duke of Cambridge.

The 96-year-old, from Gosforth near Newcastle, said: 'I told him you can't pick your family, but you can pick your friends, and he said 'I will remember that'.'

She joined the ATS in 1940 and trained at Low Gosforth House in Harrogate before being posted to Wellington Barracks at Birdcage Walk in London.

Mrs Herschel was then at the Victoria Barracks in Windsor before being demobbed in 1945.

The Field of Remembrance is an important element of the week. Now in its 91st year, it has been taking place since November 1928 when The Poppy Factory brought a group of veterans a collecting tin and tray of poppies to the grounds of the Abbey. That day, a handful of poppies were planted around two crosses. Perhaps it didn't seem significant then, but it heralded the beginning of a tradition which continues almost a century later.

昨年のグレンフェル・タワーの大火災

事件直後
エリザベス女王と、ウィリアム王子が
グレンフェル・タワーの現場を訪れられたり
また、当時関わった消防隊員たちに
お会いになっていました。

その、チャリティの公務がスタート。

英国内の惨事に対応する、

緊急対応が可能

この日、記憶に残るこれら2件を含み

被害者の人達にお会いに。

The trust will work collaboratively with charities and other bodies to direct public donations to NET appeals, and to distribute funds fairly and efficiently at the time of a national emergency. The concept of a collaborative approach to public emergency response has been proven by the Disasters Emergency Committee, which has been responding to overseas disasters for more than 50 years, and will be applied by the NET to domestic emergencies.

The Duke and Duchess met a group of people affected by the Grenfell Tower Fire and Westminster Bridge terror attacks. Shortly after the horrific fire, William joined the Queen to meet residents and later participated in a DIY SOS project to support those in the area. Those in the UK will know it's been a painful time for those who lost loved ones and their homes in the fire. Phase one findings of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry were shared just over a week ago. The report found "serious shortcomings" and "systematic failures" in response to the fire. While the findings praised the courage of the London Fire Brigade, it was highly critical of their response with a number of recommendations suggested moving forward. The report found the principal reason the fire spread was aluminium composite cladding filled with plastic used on the exterior of the building. It led to a barrage of media coverage and political commentary. As I watched it all unfold last week, I couldn't help but think of the families who are still coming to terms with the unimaginable horror they endured and how deeply impactful the inquiry is for them.

The UK is one of the most generous countries in the world in helping those in need and giving to charity. We all know the important role that the Disasters Emergency Committee plays in channelling the British public’s extraordinary generosity to respond to disasters overseas. It is therefore only fitting that a new, national charity is able to fulfill the same function when tragedy strikes at home."

'Just now and on previous occasions, it has been humbling to speak to survivors of the London Bridge and Manchester attacks, the Cumbria floods, the Grenfell Tower fire and other disasters here in the UK.

Their stories are as heart-breaking as they are inspiring. Their resilience and strength are deeply humbling. In talking to survivors, I’ve always been inspired to hear about the help they were offered by people and organisations acting on their own initiative with immediate and heartfelt compassion. This empathy is both natural, and remarkable.

Whenever and wherever disaster strikes here in the UK, this country has a unique way of pulling together. From the people who donate their blood, to the children who empty their piggy banks, to the families that set aside a bedroom in their home. The way that local communities support those affected shows the very best of our values and human nature.

But in the wake of tragedy, managing and channelling the public’s desire to help can prove tricky. I saw this for myself on the ground in the wake of the Grenfell Tower fire. I therefore fully support what you are doing here today.

I’m impressed about how willing the charity sector has been to learn the lessons from previous responses, and to ensure that the quickest and most appropriate support is offered to those affected.

I commend the Charity Commission for initiating this work, and all the charities in the voluntary and community sector for coming together so successfully. Your cooperation is admirable. The result is an organisation that you helped to design, that draws on all your strengths, and is warmly welcomed. 

I am very pleased that the National Emergencies Trust now stands ready to provide a structured, organised response to help people right across the UK in the event of a domestic disaster.

Many thanks to the whole team behind the Trust for all their hard work ahead of the launch. We all dread the day when you are needed. But I know that, like everyone here, I am glad that you now exist.'
