 ＠ St Paul's Cathedral

 It will be televised on BBC1 from 10.30 a.m.

6月14日、

忘れもしない、

ちょうど私がロンドに到着した翌日の朝、

起こった大火災

ノッティングヒルの北西に建っていた

ロンドンでは珍しい、高層の建物

グレンフェルタワーから

大きな火が上がっていた。

リアルとは思えないほどの地獄絵だった。

大人53人、子供18人が犠牲になるという、

第二次世界大戦以来の、

火災による最大の被害者を出した。

なにせ私にとっても庭

友達や知り合いの無事を確認したり

滞在中も、

訪問先のデザイナーが、仕事前に

ボランティアで活動していたりと

心配と共に、

英国人のチャリティ精神を実感、感動したりも。

そんな悲劇からちょうど半年が経った

14日

国民的な追悼式が、

セントポール大聖堂にて行われた。

家族を災害で無くした人々や

生存者たち、

現場で救助活動をしたレスキュー隊や

チャリティ、ボランティアの人々など、

合計1500人が出席して

約1時間、式が行われた。

その模様は、

BBC1 にて

10：30 am から中継された。

それを率いるのは、やはり

ロイヤルメンバー

悲劇の翌日に現地を訪れられたチャールズ皇太子に

後日、エリザベス女王と共に訪問されたウィリアム王子を中心に

カミラ夫人、キャサリン妃と

それぞれの妻に、

ハリー王子が参加。

翌月、7月には、王子たちのチャリティ

“ロイヤルファウンデーション”が

コミュニティの拠点となる場所を設立

9月に、そこを

ウィリアム王子とハリー王子が訪問されてもいる。

ロイヤルの皆様の迅速な動きに感動しきり。

多民族な、タワーの住民たちを考慮して

大聖堂のみならず、カンタベリー大司教や、

各大司教たちがメッセージを述べられたり、

様々なグループの聖歌隊による

パフォーマンスとなりました。

亡くなった方々を偲び、追悼の意を表するのみならず、

この悲劇当初、そして現在まで

サポートをしている人々：

救急サービス、リカバリーチーム、コミュニティ対応、サポート、ボランティア

などへの感謝の意も込められていたそうです。

追悼式の後、去り際には

被害者や、ご家族と直接お悔やみのお言葉なども。

メイ首相や、労働党党首ジェイミー・コービン氏

アデルやキャリー・マリガンの姿も。

Around 1,500 people were invited to the multi-faith service, which was broadcast live on BBC1, including Prime Minister Theresa May and Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn. Councillor Elizabeth Campbell, leader of Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, did not attend, after some families expressed they did not want members of the council represented there in an official capacity.

During the service a banner with the Grenfell Heart was displayed, and there were performances from the Ebony Steel Band, Portobello Road Salvation Army Band, an Islamic girls' choir from the Al Sadiq and Al Zahra Schools, and St Paul's Cathedral Choir. A pre-recorded sound montage of anonymous voices from the Grenfell community was also played. At the end of the service, bereaved families and survivors left the cathedral in silence, holding white roses.
