Nineteenth-in-line-to-the-throne Peter and Harriet officially announced
their engagement in August last year after first being linked in May
2024
Today it is expected that the King and
Queen attend the service but not the reception, instead catching a
helicopter from the Gloucestershire church to Epsom in Surrey.
Guests will toast the couple at the reception hosted by the groom's family at Gatcombe Park.

“We aligned on something authentic, traditional and modern,” explains Emilia Wickstead
of the wildflower-blooming, floor-sweeping dress she designed for
Harriet Sperling, the paediatric nurse who married Peter Phillips, the
son of Princess Anne,
this afternoon in Gloucestershire. The elegant gown – the result of
months of planning and hundreds of hours of handwork – was constructed
using a trio of different elements: a square-neck column underdress, a
delicate lace overjacket fitted above the waist, and the pièce de
résistance, a head-turning three-metre train.
Wickstead first met Sperling in the bridal salon of her Sloane Street
boutique, where brides-to-be pass through ivory silk moiré-lined doors
to discover the timeless, refined silhouettes that have become the New
Zealand-born designer’s signature
Wickstead and Sperling began the process by trying on a number of styles
together, but the designer explains that they “visualised the final
silhouette quite early on”: a demure high neckline, elegant long
sleeves, lengths of delicate lace and a 19th-century-inspired train. For
the detailing, Wickstead incorporated Leavers lace into the gown – an
exceptionally fine fabric invented in Nottingham in 1813 – which was
also used for Sperling’s veil. The lace is woven with prairie flowers, a
wildflower motif dating back to the early 1900s, in a nod to the
sprawling blooms native to Gloucestershire, where both Sperling and
Phillips spent their childhoods. Fastidious about fabrication, Wickstead
also notes that the dress was crafted from Italian ivory crepe, a less
conventional choice for a wedding gown, which “moulds to the body”.
When it came to the bride’s finishing touches, Sperling chose classic
custom ivory satin heels by Jimmy Choo and a tiara and earrings by
Pragnell, the family-run Mayfair jeweller that also designed her
engagement ring. Wickstead also designed dresses for Georgia, Savannah
and Isla – the couple’s daughters from their previous relationships, who
served as bridesmaids – using the same Italian crepe from which
Sperling’s wedding gown was crafted.

Her priceless diamond tiara is known as the 'Pragnell' family tiara and has been worn by generations of the British jewellery firm, including at the Coronation of both King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II.
The pearl and diamond creation, on loan from Pragnell, has royal connections that go back to the coronation of Peter's great-grandfather, King George VI.
The design incorporates both the Edwardian and Deco periods, and highlights a festoon of glittering leaves with floral motifs, and is very similar to a tiara owned by The Princess Royal, in the official photograph celebrating her 50th birthday in 2000.
She teamed her stunning wedding dress, featuring a square neckline and lace detailing, with Jimmy Choo shoes and Pragnell earrings. Her hair was kept in an elegant bun to best showcase the shimmering tiara.

A Family Story
Pragnell is a sixth-generation, family-run British jeweller with a
rich and royal heritage. Our legacy of craftmanship is long standing and
spans over 170 years. Through inter-generational family connections,
marriage, and business success our jewellery heritage stretches back to
the early 19th century. Our founder, George Pragnell, started his career
at Queen Mary's private jeweller, Biggs of Maidenhead, where he looked
after Queen Mary. Following this he founded the Pragnell business in
Stratford-upon-Avon.
George's son Jeremy married Jane Blott, of esteemed jewellery
manufacturers Waters & Blott (founded in 1850) and together they
successfully carried on the family business. Waters & Blott, located
on London's Bond St, crafted jewellery for Philip Antrobus (founded
1815), the designer of the Queen's engagement ring. It was a natural
step for Pragnell to acquire the Philip Antrobus jewellery house and its
archives, many of which continue to serve as inspiration for our
contemporary creations.
Today, Pragnell remains under the direction of Charlie Pragnell and his
cousins Tom Crookenden and Hugo Blott. Unified by a shared appreciation
for craft, we maintain strong relationships with leading Swiss
watchhouses, having been among the first to bring Patek Philippe and
Rolex to the UK over 70 years ago. We proudly serve as exclusive UK
partners for renowned high-horology brands, including Bernard Lederer,

A Rich and Royal Heritage
From our tapestry of royal connections to our longstanding
celebration of Shakespeare’s legacy, we are proud of our rich British
heritage.
Pragnell was founded in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1954, and our
jewellery-making heritage stretches back to the early 19th century.
Founder George Pragnell began his career at Queen Mary’s private
jeweller, Biggs of Maidenhead. Over the years, we have acquired the
esteemed jewellery houses George Tarratt (est. 1915), Waters & Blott
(est. 1850) and Philip Antrobus (est. 1815) - the creator of the
Queen’s engagement ring.
Acquiring these specialist jewellers cemented our antique jewellery
expertise, and many of our fine jewellery collections are inspired by
the archives of these distinguished houses.
We also have a long-time relationship with another of
Stratford-upon-Avon’s celebrated exports: William Shakespeare. Our
flagship showroom stands at 5 Wood Street, in a listed Tudor cottage
designed by Abraham Sturley, one of the Bard’s closest friends and
drinking companions.
We are proud supporters of the annual Shakespeare’s Birthday
Celebrations, and in 1990 launched the Pragnell Shakespeare Birthday
Award, honouring those who further his legacy.

Peter's new wife, Harriet, made a special tribute to his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, in her bouquet on Saturday.
The NHS nurse included Lily of the Valley in her floral arrangement, which is said to have been a favourite of the monarch.
Lily of the valley, which was also included in the bridesmaids' headpieces, was included in Elizabeth's coronation bouquet in 1953.
The Queen, whose childhood nickname was Lilibet, chose it when the Royal Family shared their favourite blooms in 2020 after the pandemic forced the Chelsea Flower Show online.
Buckingham Palace said it had 'special associations' for the monarch since her coronation, and the sweet-scented flower also featured in Kate's wedding bouquet.
Often used to symbolise trustworthiness, the woodland plant is grown in the grounds at Buckingham Palace.
Harriet also featured myrtle in her wedding bouquet, which, according to florist Millie Richardson, is a tradition typically followed in the royal family.
Richardson told the Telegraph, 'Lily of the valley was definitely requested for its regal connotation.
'Myrtle is a symbol of beauty, grace and love and was requested on the same basis. It's always included in every royal wedding bouquet.'

Complementing Peter’s buttonhole
flower, they each carried a posy made up of seasonal, delicate flowers
including Majolica spray roses and Nigella love-in-a-mist pale-blue
roses, which have been a tradition at weddings in Harriet’s family. Each
of the girls wore a hand-wired headpiece created using lily of the
valley

Guests were greeted by the sight of huge foliage arrangements and a floral archway at the entrance to the church, which had been created by the floral artist Millie Richardson. The displays were made up of a range of locally sourced, English-grown flowers, which were included to ensure the decor was eco-conscious and sustainably minded.
Millie had created two floral archways: one at the gates to the church and another at the front porch of the chapel. The former featured white, cream and pale-pink rambling and arching roses, while the latter included red multi-stem silver birch and hornbeam trees, which were layered with branches of textured foliage and varieties of David Austin roses.
