Over the last year, the Duke and Duchess and the Royal Foundation have worked to support those working on the frontline of the pandemic, including through the provision of grants to ten leading charities at the heart of mental health and frontline support as part of a bespoke COVID relief fund."

William and Kate heard about resources available to staff helping them look after their mental health and emotional wellbeing. They were interested to hear about drop-in spaces and wellbeing spaces. It was enlightening to hear about London Ambulance's fleet of Wellbeing Tea Trucks. For over a decade, the trucks have travelled across the capital serving tea and snacks to paramedics, staff and volunteers, offering them a few moments break. Right now, staff who are unable to work in patient-facing settings can give back by working on the trucks.
During a conversation with paramedic Shani Smith, the couple heard how she had been assisting in the operation of the trucks over the course of the pandemic and how her mental-heath training has been vital not only for herself, but for her colleagues too, in these unprecedented times.
The Cambridges spent time in the wellbeing garden with paramedic Jahrin Khan to discuss how difficult it was isolating from her family.
In the first days of the new year, our 999 call handlers were answering in excess of 8,000 calls a day – compared to around 5,500 calls on a ‘normal’ very busy winter day – while 111 health advisers were dealing with twice as many calls as usual.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited a ‘Wellbeing Garden’ in a corner of the station created by staff at Newham themselves as their space for quiet reflection and peace after busy shifts. Here they talked with staff who had spent long periods away from their families while working on the frontline about dealing with the pressure of the past year.
The Royal couple also saw one of eight of the Service’s so-called ‘Tea Trucks’ that have played an important role delivering hot drinks and snacks to crews at control rooms and hospital bays while London’s cafes and hospital canteens remain closed in lockdown.
The Duke and Duchess are Patrons of NHS Charities Together which has donated £100,000 for supplies on the trucks. This ‘Tea Truck’ was named “Sir Tom” in honour of Captain Sir Tom Moore for his incredible fundraising for NHS Charities Together.
They met paramedic and tea truck volunteer Shani Smith who is trained to support peers struggling with their mental health.

Michelle Obama told NBC that racism claims didn't shock her
Michelle Obama reacted to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Oprah Winfrey interview this morning by saying that she personally chose to focus on the people she 'serves' rather than herself while in public service in what appeared to be a thinly veiled swipe at the couple.
Mrs Obama was asked by Jenna Bush Hager what she thought of Meghan's comments in a segment that aired on NBC today. 'When you watched Meghan Markle speak out, what went through your mind?' Ms Bush Hager asked.
Mrs Obama replied: 'Public service it's a bright, sharp, hot spotlight and most people don't understand it nor should they. The thing that I always keep in mind is that none of this is about us, in public service, it's about the people that we serve.
'I always try to push the light back out and focus it on the folks that we're actually here to serve.'
Ms Bush Hager then said: 'But what about when she talked about the fact that she experienced racism? I mean I feel like that was heartbreaking to hear that she felt like she was in her own family, her own family, thought differently of her.'
Mrs Obama, who met most of the Royal Family when serving as First Lady, replied: 'Race isn't a new construct in this world, for people of color. So it wasn't a complete surprise to, sort of, hear her feelings and have them articulated.
She went on: 'The thing that hope for and the thing that I think about is that this first and foremost is a family and I pray for forgiveness and healing for them so they can use his as a teachable moment for them all.'
Mrs Obama's choice of words refers back to the war of words between Harry and Meghan and Buckingham Palace in February when the Palace said the pair were permanently stepping back from a life of 'public service' and not returning to work.
The couple responded with their own statement saying: 'We can all live a life of service. Service is universal.'

They got over 41,000 calls of people weighing in to say that is not OK, that is not cool. And by the next day, he was out of a job. He said he resigned. I find that a little hard to believe when you had 41,000 calls.'
'And kudos to his co-anchor, they said it was the weather guy. I wonder if he was the weather guy, but they described him as a weather guy, who spoke out and really let Piers have it on the air, and then Piers stormed off, and now Piers is no longer on the air there.'

Prince Harry was seen in California riding what appears to be a RadCity Step-Thru 3 electric bicycle.
Electric bikes have become increasingly popular recently as an effort-free way to travel the roads.
They allow a person to skip past traffic and utilise bike lanes while using an electric motor to propel themselves.

E-bikes look like a normal bike but have a few additions and modifications, including a battery, electric motor and an electric display.
The 750W motor on the RadCity Step-Thru 3 is powered by a 48V lithium-ion batter and is found on the drive hub at the centre of the rear wheel.
The motor is only activated when the pedals are in motion and therefore adds power to the act of pedalling. It is also able to recharge the battery by capturing energy from braking.
The battery pack takes six hours to charge and is good for up to 50 minutes before needing to be recharged.
Despite being able to reach a top speed of 20mph, the 65lb bike does not require a license to ride.
Users can also whizz along the pavement or road without a helmet, like Prince Harry was seen doing, with just a baseball cap to protect his head.
Many tax-paying motorists have become increasingly disgruntled with e-bikes, as well as electric scooters, because they are seen to be trying to 'have it both ways'.
On one side, they are similar to a vehicle because they motorised and use the roads but they also pay no road tax, are able to use the pavements and cycle lanes and do not have registration plates.
