Kate and William launch £5million scheme to support Britain's mental health during the anxious coronavirus lockdown
- Duke and Duchess of Cambridge urged people to follow health guidance
- Video calls to keep in touch with family and friends can help, they said
- Royals also recommended sticking to a regular routine and working on hobbies
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will launch a £5million scheme today to support the nation’s mental health at a time of high anxiety during the coronaviruslockdown.
They urge people to follow guidance from Public Health England by using video calls to keep in touch with family and friends, sticking to regular routines, and focusing on favourite hobbies or learning something new.
The Cambridges’ intervention is part of a Government initiative that will see £5million awarded to mental health charities to expand support services.
Kate and William said: ‘The last few weeks have been anxious and unsettling for everyone. We have to take time to support each other and find ways to look after our mental health.’
'It is great to see the mental health sector working together with the NHS to help people keep on top of their mental wellbeing.
'By pulling together and taking simple steps each day, we can all be better prepared for the times ahead.'
Minister for Mental Health Nadine Dorries, who has recovered from Covid-19, said: 'When I discovered I had coronavirus I felt anxious and scared.
'For those who already suffer with anxiety or other mental health issues this may present new and difficult challenges.
'It’s imperative that we stay home if we are to beat coronavirus and save lives.
'I know how important it is that people have support to look after their mental health and this guidance will be of huge value.'
Mental health guidance, which was developed with the input of mental health charities and clinically assured by the NHS, also has points on how to help children manage stress.
Published on PHE’s Every Mind Matters page, it includes tips such as being aware of your own reactions around children and creating a new routine for them.
There is also support for those who are already living with a serious mental health problem, such as how to access help from mental health professionals.
PHE said it is issuing guidance to trusts on prioritisation of services and how to maximise use of digital and virtual channels to keep delivering support to patients.
It said NHS mental health providers are also establishing 24/7 helplines.
Mind is one of a consortium of charities preparing to adapt and increase their services.
They are reaching out to vulnerable groups including older adults and people with underlying health conditions, and also anyone experiencing unstable employment and housing conditions.
Paul Farmer, chief executive of Mind, said: 'Reaching out to friends and family is critical, as well as paying attention to the impact our physical health can have on our mental health – from diet and exercise to getting enough natural light and a little fresh air.
'Whether we have an existing mental health problem or not, we are all going to need extra help to deal with the consequences of this unprecedented set of circumstances.'

医療従事者の人々への”レインボー運動”
の一環でもあるらしく
いちいちやることがお見事。

キャサリン妃は、
まさにお家で、アート＆クラフト
をお楽しみになりながら、
サポートもできるという、
こんな方法を考えつくとは、

As we can see Louis, dressed in a blue checked shirt, also loves his arts and crafts – one of Kate’s favourite things to do with her children – and has no fear of getting his hands dirty.
Supporting the NHS: These charming pictures show that – just like millions of other children across Britain – his parents are keeping him busy by painting rainbows to celebrate the NHS.

He looks positively ecstatic to be getting so covered in paint as he makes a rainbow patterned handprint to stick up on the front window of the family home.
Pictures of rainbows started springing up up in windows across the country after schools closed in response to the coronavirus outbreak.
They originated in Italy and quickly spread to the UK, where they are seen as a message of hope and something fun for children spot on their daily hour of exercise. Kate even carefully painted a rainbow on his hands to make a perfect print.

家族みんなで拍手という、なんとも素敵な流れとお話し。

As is becoming a very important tradition, every Thursday night the Cambridge family joined the nation by celebrating our NHS staff, volunteers and carers with a round of applause in gratitude for their extraordinary efforts.
Indeed those watching the BBC will know tonight's appearance was a little different with some much-needed comic relief. Prince William made his acting debut as he joined Stephen Fry for a delightful sketch in support of The Big Night In appeal. There were several royally tailored jokes, with William asking Stephen for television recommendations now his favourite soap Eastenders is on hiatus. Mr Fry asked if he had seen Tiger King to which William joked: "I tend to avoid shows about royalty."
The Telegraph reports on the sketch which saw Stephen Fry reprise his much-loved Blackadder role as Lord Melchett.
'Written by Richard Curtis, who penned the original television show and is the founder of Comic Relief, it opened with Stephen Fry as Lord Melchett.
Known to fans of the show as the Lord Chamberlain to Elizabeth I in the Tudor series of the show, the character had been updated for the modern Royal Family as “head of the royal household”.
Waiting for the Duke to join him on a call, as made fun of the royal heritage as he muttered: “I thought Germans were meant to be punctual." “I’m here Melchett,” said Prince William, in an acting debut that would have taken millions of viewers by surprise.
After a moment of tech failure, which saw him call video calls “complicated stuff”, he asked: “How are you Melchie, have you been self isolating?” In a short sketch filmed at Anmer Hall, Fry asked how his homeschooling was going.
“It’s a bit of a nightmare really,” said William, before Melchett offered to help with spelling or history. Fry said he was “not bad at kings and queens”, before reminding himself that it was likely the Duke’s own area of expertise. “You’d think so wouldn’t you,” William replied, looking sceptical. When Fry tried to address him in French, he admitted: “I literally have no idea what you’re talking about."'動画

'Yes I'm here with my old friend Lord Blackadder,' he replies. 'Our grandfathers fought together. Constantly, I'm told.'
William asks: 'Just the two of you?'
Fry: 'Well no, he brought along a curious little fellow called Baldrick who smells of turnips. How's the home schooling going?'
'It's a bit of a nightmare really,' William replies.
'Well I'll be delighted to help if I can,' says Fry. 'Um, what subjects are on the curriculum?'
'Spelling,' says William.
'Well I could probably help with that. I could do most words from cat to contrafibularities.'
'What about history?' asks William.
'Well I'm not too bad on kings and queens, but then I am guessing that may also be your strong point,' Fry says.
'You'd think so, wouldn't you,' laughs William. 'How's your French?'
Fry says in French, with subtitles: 'I hope I've got a smattering of the colloquial and the classical.'

William laughs: 'I literally have no idea what you are talking about.'
'Happy to serve, Sir,' Fry says, 'and to return to the matter in hand, this is your 60-second warning.'
William replies: 'I'll go and get the family together.'
'Excellent.'
William adds: 'By the way, have you seen anything good on TV? It's hell without EastEnders.'
'Isn't it?' says Fry. 'They tell me [Netflix series] Tiger King is rather good.'
'Yes I tend to avoid shows about royalty,' William deadpans.
'And that's now 45 seconds and counting. I think our time is up,' says Fry.
'On my way, let me just find my socks. And my shoes,' says William, before looking down and adding sheepishly: 'And my trousers.'
He then waves and turns off the computer.
'Excellent, job diddly done, done, done,' says Fry, to the strains of Coldplay's Paradise.
After their virtual exchange, William and his family then go out of their home, Anmer Hall in Norfolk, to clap for the NHS at 8pm, with Princess Charlotte excitedly applauding as soon as she sets foot outside.
