Over 1,400 officers and men of the Household Division will parade before their monarch and commander-in-chief, from Buckingham Palace along The Mall to Horse Guards Parade and back again
also wore an oversized hat by Philip Treacy and a pair of dainty pearl earrings. The star of the show was her Irish Guards Regimental brooch, a nod to her role as colonel.
Trooping the Colour is the annual military parade marking the monarch's official birthday. The public watched on as over 1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses, and 400 musicians came together in an incredible display of military precision and fanfare.
The Princess of Wales has appeared in public for the first time this year, as she begins her return to public life with an all-family outing at Trooping the Colour.
Prince and Princess of Wales travel with children
The Prince and Princess of Wales are driving to the King’s birthday celebration with their three children, Prince George (10), Princess Charlotte (9) and Prince Louis (6).
King arrives for his official birthday parade
The King has arrived for his official birthday parade, travelling in the Scottish State Coach with the Queen by his side.
As God Save the King rang out, the carriages were seen leaving Buckingham Palace on the way to Horse Guards Parade.
Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor was the first member of the Royal family seen, in a carriage with her mother the Duchess of Edinburgh, and the Duke of Kent.
Last year, the King rode on horseback. This year, as he continues his cancer treatment, doctors have advised a modified programme which includes travelling by coach.
The Princess of Wales and her three children are also travelling by carriage.

Order of the Royal procession
In the first barouche - the four-wheeled horse-drawn carriages - rides the Duchess of Edinburgh, Lady Louise Mountbatten Windsor and the Duke of Kent.
In the second carriage rides the Duke of Gloucester, the Duchess of Gloucester and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, the husband of the Princess Royal.
On horseback, the Princess Anne, the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Edinburgh ride together.
They are followed by the glass coach, in which the Princess of Wales follows with the Royal children, Princes George, Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte.
Finally, the King and Queen are travelling in the Scottish state coach at the back.
The Prince of Wales has saluted the cheering crowds gathered in honour of the King’s official birthday celebration.
The Prince, who is colonel of the Welsh guards, wears his guard’s full ceremonial dress along with the Gold, Diamond, and Platinum Jubilee medals, plus the Coronation Medal from left to right.
Watch: King and Queen take their seats
They took their seats after the King inspected the officers and guardsmen on Horse Guards Parade in Whitehall from the coach rather than from a horse.
The King travelled in a carriage for the inspection due to his illness.
Watch: Royal children gather at window to watch parade.
The Royal family are waiting at the window of the Duke of Wellington’s former office to watch the parade.
Prince Louis, Prince George and Princess Charlotte were spotted patiently waiting for the festivities to begin.
Procession back to Buckingham Palace begins as rain worsens
The Royal procession back to Buckingham Palace has started just as heavy rain begins falling in central London.
The King and Queen were protected from the downpour in their carriage.
Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis also stayed dry, in a carriage with their mother, the Princess of Wales.
King salutes Trooping the Colour
The King has saluted troops at Horse Guards Parade in the official Trooping the Colour ceremony.
The military procession is starting to make its way back down The Mall following the march’s conclusion.
Royals take shelter as procession heads back to palace
Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh and her daughter, Lady Louise are attempting to stay out of the rain by sheltering inside their carriage as they travel back to Buckingham Palace.
The Royals and their procession of guards have been caught in a heavy downpour on The Mall.
Prince Louis receives helping hand to climb into carriage
Prince Louis has received a helping hand from a member of staff when climbing back inside the carriage to begin the journey back to Buckingham Palace,
The man put out a couple of steps for the young Prince before he was able to step in.
The Princess of Wales looked on as she held an umbrella over her and Prince George to avoid the heavy rain.
Princess Charlotte waves enthusiastically to crowds
Crowds are giving loud cheers as the Royal carriages head back down The Mall towards Buckingham Palace.
Princess Charlotte used her hand to clear condensation on the carriage windows so she was able to see out and continue to wave at well-wishers.
Prince George and the Princess of Wales were also seen smiling and waving to crowds.
King’s troops fire Royal gun salute
A 41-gun salute was fired in honour of the King’s official birthday by the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery in the Green Park.
The gun salute was last heard at King Charles’s coronation in May 2023 and involves an extra 20 rounds fire - more than a regular gun salute of 21 rounds fired at 10-second intervals - as it is taking place in a Royal park, which has been the case since 1827.
Royal family steps onto balcony
The Royal family have stepped out onto the balcony of Buckingham Palace as they gather to watch the Red Arrows flypast.
They are smiling and chatting among themselves while looking up at the aircraft going past overhead in the slightly clearer skies.
The senior Royals on the balcony include the King and Queen, Prince and Princess of Wales, Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and the Princess Royal with Sir Tim Lawrence.
Flypast goes overhead
The flypast has concluded with the Red Arrows having just flown over Buckingham Palace as the Royal family watched on.
The spectacle saw 10 waves of RAF aircraft travel past and the most-eagerly awaited is the colourful red, white and blue display from the Red Arrows.

The Royal Family were out in full force today as they watched the King's annual Birthday Parade, taking to Buckingham Palace's famous balcony to watch the Trooping the Colour flypast
1. Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester: The Duke is the youngest grandchild of King George V and Queen Mary and a paternal cousin of the late Queen. He carries out duties on behalf of the royal family and is patron of many societies.
2. Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester: The Dutch-born Duchess married Prince Richard in 1972 and is a full-time working member of the Royal Family. She shares three children with the Duke - none of whom undertake official duties.
3. Prince George: Eldest son of the Prince and Princess of Wales and second-in-line to the throne, George was also pictured alongside his family on the balcony.
4. Prince of Wales: Prince William, heir to the throne, took part in the procession, riding horseback while his wife and children travelled in a carriage.
5. Prince Louis: Often referred to as the 'cheeky' royal due to his mischievous antics, Louis was on the balcony today alongside his mother, father and siblings. At some points, he looked rather unimpressed.
6. Princess Charlotte: The Princess was also pictured alongside Louis and King Charles on the Buckingham Palace balcony.
7. Princess of Wales: Kate, 42, who has been receiving chemotherapy for an undisclosed form of cancer since February, travelled in a carriage alongside her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, for the traditional procession through London.
8. King Charles: Last year, the king became the first monarch in more than 30 years to take part in the Colour on horseback.
It was the first time a reigning monarch has ridden at the Colour since Queen Elizabeth's horse Burmese carried her during the 1986 ceremony.
However, this year, he took a carriage, reportedly eschewing riding on doctors' orders, due to his cancer diagnosis.
9. Queen Camilla: The Queen, who wore pale green silk crepe dress and coat by Anna Valentine, and hat by Philip Treacy, appeared delighted to stand by her husband's side during the major event.
10. Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh: Sophie, 59, looked stunning in yellow today as she travelled in a carriage alongside her daughter Lady Louise to Horse Guards Parade.
11. Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh: As he did last year, Prince Edward rode during the ceremony today, in his role as Colonel of the 1st Battalion London Guards.
This marked a departure from 2022, when he took a carriage with his wife Sophie.
12. Lady Louise Windsor: 20-year-old student Louise, who is studying at St Andrews, missed last year's Trooping the Colour.
This year, she travelled to the event in a carriage she shared with her mother Sophie.
13. Princess Anne:The King's sister, who is often regarded as the 'hardest working royal', looked relaxed as she celebrated the annual event with her family. Anne rode horseback alongside Prince William and Prince Edward.
14. Vice Admiral Timothy Laurence: The husband of Princess Anne shared a carriage with the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester today, while his wife rode on horseback.
15. Prince Edward, Duke of Kent: The 88-year-old was present on the balcony alongside the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.
missing from the line-up was James, the Earl of Wessex, 16, whose absence could be related to it being exam season.
However, his sister Lady Louise, who was not present at the event last year, did attend Trooping the Colour today, in a move that surprised some royal watchers.
absent face was Princess Alexandra, 87, a cousin of the late Queen, who also missed the event last year.
And Prince Andrew unsurprisingly also failed to make the cut. The disgraced royal, who took a step back from senior royal duties amid the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, has not been seen on the balcony for the event since 2019.
In 2023, just 14 members of the Royal Family took to the historic spot to mark the King's birthday celebrations, while this year, the balcony was not much fuller, with 15 members watching the flypast

She has added a black and white striped bow to the right side of her collar, and wears the Irish Guards Regimental Brooch on the left.
By choosing a dress that was last worn for such an important moment for the King, it suggests a nod of support and honour for the monarch on his official birthday

Her daughter Lady Louise, like Kate, dipped her toe into sustainable fashion practices – she donned the same Suzannah London dress (£1,290) she wore to the coronation last year, and borrowed the bespoke Jane Taylor hat her mother wore to Ascot last year.
