The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry have arrived at The Global Academy in support of Heads Together. They will meet students training to be the next generation of production staff, as flagship global stations LBC, Heart and Capital broadcast shows from the new academy in Hayes, Middlesex. The shows will each focus on the mental health of young people, helping to generate conversations with the Heads Together campaign in honour of the visit.

The Global Academy is a state school founded and operated by Global, The Media & Entertainment Group, designed to prepare students for careers in the broadcast and digital media industry, offering academic and vocational training

As well as giving young people a route into the media industry, the Global Academy gives students the practical and technical skills they need to succeed in the real world. This includes encouraging young people to talk about any mental wellbeing issues they may be facing, with an hour of mental wellbeing on the curriculum every week, recognising the issue and removing the stigma sometimes associated with it.

『キャサリン妃 今日の言葉』

After hearing from two mothers who admitted feeling in need of a friend when they had small babies, she also said of being a mum: 'It is lonely at times. You do feel quite isolated.
'But actually so many other mothers are going through exactly what you're going through. But it's being brave enough, like you obviously were, to reach out.'

She also made a candid revelation about her lack of confidence as she chatted to Oliver Monger, 16, from Uxbridge, who joined the academy when it opened last September, and hopes to go into the film industry.
He told the Duchess: 'I've not really had a problem I've needed to talk to someone about, but meeting you is a new thing. I don't really know how to speak to someone so high. I'm quite shy.'
Smiling Kate interjected: 'I'm shy as well, so don't worry.'

Afterwards an exhilarated Oliver said: 'That was just fantastic. It has really boosted my confidence. I had no idea what to say at first but she really put me at ease.'

The Duchess, who had been hearing how students benefitted from their classes, said:
'It's having those age-appropriate conversations and bringing in the topic of mental health really at different levels. Whether it be at a happy level or a more serious level.

'It's the same with younger children, and even helping parents to start these conversations from a much earlier age but through play even if their language hasn't yet developed.
'Very young children actually don't even have the language to express how they're feeling, so it comes out in behavioural problems.

'So being able to find ways to address those problems really early on is great.'

Prince Harry told students that, in the past, discussing mental health had been seen as a 'dry, depressing subject' which 'turned people away'.
'If you can bring a light-hearted humour and encourage people to speak about the subject in that way, it puts a smile on your face,' he said.

The Duke of Cambridge said:
'The strongest guys are the ones who can talk about it.
'The weak guys are the ones who bottle it away and it makes their lives spiral completely out of control. And it ruins their lives eventually.
'You waste a lot of your life worrying and stressing about stuff that frankly, if you have a conversation and talk to somebody it will make everything much better.'

Prince Harry said:
'I think the whole country has shown a real appetite to want to talk about this.
'We've sort of unlocked something. It's like taking the lid off a boiling pan. It's been simmering for a very long time and everyone's desperate for it to come out.
'It's just providing a mechanism. We need to prioritise mental health.'

They were joined by Global presenters, LBC’s Nick Ferrari, Heart’s Jamie Theakston and (former Spice Girl) Emma Bunton, as well as students and people who have taken part in the morning radio shows, talking about the importance of having a conversation about mental health

THE WEEK ROYALS OPENED UP ON MENTAL HEALTH

William, Kate and Harry have spent the past few days championing their Heads Together campaign, which aims to encourage the nation to talk about their mental health problems or be a sympathetic ear for someone in need.

On Wednesday Harry commented on his decision to speak out about the issues he faced after his mother's death, saying it was 'only right' he aired his experiences as he wanted to encourage others to 'smash that stigma' around talking about mental health.

He was praised by the duchess, who described him as 'brilliant' for revealing in an interview with the Daily Telegraph that he spent nearly 20 years 'not thinking' about the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, and eventually got help after two years of 'total chaos'.

Prince William also gave an interview to CALMzine, a magazine focused on tackling mental health issues in men, in which he called for an end to the 'stiff upper lip' culture that prevents people from being open about their struggles.

Yesterday, the Duchess held a reception for London Marathon runners who are taking part for Heads Together at Kensington Palace.

During the event, Kate chatted with DJ Neev Spencer - who suffered post natal depression after the birth of her daughter, Genevieve, now nine months.

Kate told her: 'Nothing can prepare you for motherhood - especially the first time round, the mixed emotions.'

Neev, 36, told the duchess how she discovered she had a slipped disk just three months after giving birth - leaving her laid up in hospital.

The mum-of-one could not even lift her own baby - and so was left feeling her own mother was better with the tot.

Neev said afterwards: 'Kate was just so lovely. She was really genuine. I felt comfortable enough to share my experience with her. She was agreeing with me on all the points about how tough being a mum is at the beginning. She must understand from when she had George.'

Describing her depression, she said: 'I felt like everyone was much better with her than me. I couldn't pick her up - I couldn't move. I just went low. That's when the post natal depression started. I didn't think I was up to the job.'
