『RHS Wellbeing Garden 』

visit to the RHS's Wellbeing Garden at Colchester Hospital,

to celebrate the incredible healing power of nature and raise awareness of the important role that spending time in nature plays in bringing us joy and supporting our mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing

キャサリン妃が、サプライズ

この日公務に登場！

18日のロイヤルアスコットの出席がキャンセルとなったので

最後の公の場、といえば、

6月16日のガーター・デー

どうやら、裏ではお仕事もされていたらしく

先週、ウィンザー城で

メリンダ・フレンチ・ゲイツ（ビル・ゲイツ氏の元妻で慈善家）

を迎えられた際、

ウィリアム皇太子とご一緒にキャサリン妃もお会いになったとか。

そして、この日は

ついにご公務！

コルチェスター病院にある、RHS（王立園芸協会）の

ウェルビーイング・ガーデンを訪れ、

自然の驚くべき癒しの力を称え、自然の中で過ごすことが私たちに喜びをもたらし、

精神的、肉体的、霊的な健康をサポートするという

重要な役割を担っていることへの認識を高められた。

コルチェスター病院のウェルビーイング・ガーデンは、

2024年7月にオープンし

NHSのスタッフ、患者、訪問者のためのリラックスと回復の空間で

ここのガーデンは、

地域社会にとって重要な拠点となり、

病院で働く人々や病院を訪れる人々に、アクティビティを提供しているそう。

The garden was created in partnership with the RHS（王立園芸協会）, Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity and NHS Charities Together, the latter of which is a joint patronage of the Prince and Princess of Wales.

キャサリン妃は滞在中、

患者やスタッフからお話を聞かれ、

医療現場においてガーデンが、

良好な健康状態の促進、健康状態の悪化防止、回復時間の延長のサポートにおいて、

いかに重要な役割を果たしているかを理解された。

また、コルチェスター病院のキャンサー・ウェルビーイング・センターで

患者やスタッフと話をされ、

がん治療後の経験についても語られた。

その後、ガーデンにて

受賞歴のある庭園デザイナーの《Adam Frost》氏とお会いになり、

ガーデンの設計と協議のプロセスを通じて、

彼がどのようにNHSのスタッフと協力し、

ガーデンが、スタッフと患者のニーズに応えられるようにしたかをヒアリング。

そして、ガーデンでボランティアをしているスタッフとともに

キャサリン妃の名が付けられた

バラの苗を植えた。

園芸用の手袋を差し出されたにもかかわらず、

ひざまずき、素手とこてを使って土をならし、バラを植えられた。

アダム・フロスト氏に

「気分が良いです」と話され、

アウトドアでの公務を喜ばれていた。

この訪問は、RHSが王女の名前を冠した

「キャサリン's Rose」の苗50本をコルチェスター病院に寄贈し、

その売上金がロイヤル・マースデンがんチャリティに寄付されるのと

同じタイミングで行なわれた。

A total of 500 'Catherine's Rose' plants will be donated to wellbeing and community gardens across the UK this summer, including Maggie's gardens for people affected by cancer, East Anglia's Children’s Hospices and Horatio's Gardens for those living with spinal injuries.

合計で500本の「キャサリン・ローズ」の苗は、

この夏、英国中の福祉施設やコミュニティ・ガーデン

（がん患者のためのMaggie's gardens、

East Anglia's Children’s Hospices

脊髄損傷者のためのHoratio's Gardens）

に寄贈される。

土砂降りの雨の中、公務が予定より30分押すと、

皇太子妃は病院のスタッフや外で待っていた患者たちへ

「今手を洗っているところです。

すぐに行きます」

なんか、とにかく普通、、、という、

私には最もコメントしづらい感じのやつ

何か１つ、新鮮でトレンド感のものデザインを入れるべき、だな、、、

ロイヤルとしての、垢抜け感が欲しい。

also spoke with patients and staff at Colchester Hospital’s Cancer Wellbeing Centre, where she opened up about her experiences after cancer treatment.

"You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment, treatments done, then it’s like 'I can crack on, get back to normal' but actually the phase afterwards is really, is really you know difficult," Kate said. "You're not necessarily under the clinical team any longer but you're not able to function normally at home as you perhaps once used to. And actually someone to help talk you through that, show you and guide you through that sort of phase that comes after treatment I think is really valuable."

She added: "But it's life changing for anyone, through first diagnosis or post treatment and things like that, it is life changing experience, both for the patient but also for the families as well. And actually it sometimes goes unrecognised, you don't necessarily, particularly when it's the first time, appreciate how much impact it is going to have.

"You have to find your new normal and that takes time…and it's a roller coaster it's not one smooth plain, which you expect it to be. But the reality is it's not, you go through hard times. And to have a place like this to have the support network, through creativity and singing or gardening whatever it might be is so valuable and it’s great this community has it, it would be great if lots of communities had this kind of support."

また、コルチェスター病院のキャンサー・ウェルビーイング・センターで患者やスタッフと話をし、がん治療後の経験について語った。

治療が終わって、「がんばれる、元通りになれる」と思っても、実はその後の段階が本当に、本当に大変なんです」とケイトは語った。

「必ずしも臨床チームのもとにいる必要はないけれど、かつてのように家庭で普通に機能することはできない。治療が終わった後、そのような段階を乗り越えようとするときに、誰かが相談にのってくれたり、案内してくれたりするのは、本当に貴重なことだと思います」

初診や治療後など、誰にとっても人生を変えるような経験です。特に初めての場合は、それがどれほどの影響を及ぼすのか、必ずしも理解できないものです。

「新しい日常を見つけなければならないし、それには時間がかかる......現実は期待しているほどスムーズではなく、まるでジェットコースターのようなものです。

このような場所があることで、創造性や歌、ガーデニングなど、どんなことであれ、サポートネットワークを持つことができる。

The Princess then visited Colchester Hospital's Cancer Wellbeing Centre and met with patients and staff

Even the rain didn't dampen her spirits as she chatted with staff

The Princess met with award-winning garden designer Adam Frost, who led the design of the garden, and heard about how he worked with NHS staff

The Princess dug alongside television garden designer Adam Frost and told him she was feeling 'good' and was pleased to be able to work outside

then planted some 'Catherine's Rose' plants in the wellbeing garden

Kate even had the opportunity to plant the 'Catherine Rose' herself, alongside staff who volunteer in the garden

Kate showed off her gardening skills as she planted a rose, which is named after her

The visit coincides with the donation of 50 Catherine's Rose plants, named after the princess by the RHS with funds from sales going to the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity
