a procession where the coffin of Britain's Queen Elizabeth is transported from Buckingham Palace to the Houses of Parliament for her lying in state』

Royals' solemn march: King Charles, Prince Andrew, Princess Anne and William and Harry lead historic 2.22pm procession as Queen Elizabeth II is taken on her last journey from Buckingham Palace

  • Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is now lying in state at the Palace of Westminster in London
  • She will rest there for four days before her state funeral at Westminster Abbey on Monday
  • Today the late monarch left her beloved home of 70 years Buckingham Palace for the last time
  • She made her saddest journey to Westminster Hall today accompanied by King Charles III
  • His sons Prince William and Prince Harry and three siblings all followed her coffin down The Mall

Together again for the Queen: Harry and Meghan stand behind William and Kate in Westminster Hall lying in state service days after they reunited to meet mourners in Windsor

  • Brothers walked side-by-side for procession from Buckingham Palace while wives travelled in separate cars
  • Once inside Westminster Hall, couples stood together in latest show of togetherness Saturday's walkabout
  • Her Majesty carried down The Mall on a gun carriage - a tradition dating back to the death of Queen Victoria

The royal family will accompany their matriarch
on foot on the journey to Westminster Hall
this afternoon
where hundreds of thousands of people are expected to pay their respects after queueing for hours.

The King
The Princess Royal
The Prince of Wales
Duke of Sussex
The Duke of York
The Earl of Wessex

Peter Phillips
Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence
The Duke of Gloucester
The Earl of Snowdon

The Queen Consort, the Princess of Wales, the Countess of Wessex will travel to Westminster Hall by car.

The procession will leave the palace at 2.22pm
and is expected to arrive at Westminster Hall at 3pm.

At 2.22pm exactly this afternoon, the Queen's coffin will be placed on a gun carriage and lead a procession down a packed Mall, along Whitehall and then into Parliament Square before entering the Palace of Westminster followed by her son, the new King, and her children and grandchildren.

The 20-minute service will be led by the Archbishop of Canterbury accompanied by the Dean of Westminster.

The lying-in-state begins at 5pm.

***********************

The Queen arrived at Buckingham Palace last night to tears and cheers from the huge crowds who stood in the pouring rain to welcome her home after her death at Balmoral last Thursday.
The route from RAF Northolt to the palace was packed.
There was a wave of lights as many raised their mobile phones in the air to film the hearse as it passed.

As the hearse drove through the gates, Charles could be seen bowing his head with Harry and Meghan stood solemnly behind the monarch.

Her Majesty spent her final night in the Bow Room of Buckingham Palace before she is conveyed on a gun carriage to Westminster Hall - the ancient heart of Parliament - where she will lie in state for four days until her funeral on Monday.

More than 1million people are expected to queue in central London for up to 35 hours to walk past her casket - but experts believe only 400,000 will make it inside meaning 600,000 people will be left disappointed.

Glittering with diamonds, the crown jewel of the ceremony

Sparkling with 3,000 precious jewels, the Imperial State Crown was one of the dazzling treasures laid on top of the Queen's coffin yesterday.

It contains some of the most famous jewels in the royal collection including the 317-carat Cullinan II diamond, the Stuart Sapphire and the Black Prince's Ruby.

Created in 1937, the crown is set with 2,868 diamonds, 17 sapphires, 11 emeralds, 269 pearls and four rubies.

Also set in the top cross is St Edward's Sapphire, which is said to have been worn by St Edward the Confessor and was discovered in his tomb in 1163.

It was made for the coronation of the Queen's father, King George VI, and was worn by Her Majesty every year for the State Opening of Parliament.

Sitting next to the crown was a wreath of the Queen's favourite flowers. It included pine picked from her Balmoral estate and pittosporum, lavender and rosemary from her gardens at Windsor.

The wreath, which also included white roses and dahlias, also served as a touching tribute to her late husband. Dahlias can symbolise a lasting commitment between two people – perhaps a poignant reference to her 73-year marriage with Prince Philip.

Both the crown and the wreath sat atop the Royal Standard.

Biblical symbolism, a tribute to George VI or clever planning? Experts suggest reasons behind Queen's coffin being moved from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall at precisely 2.22pm today

When the King and his sons walked behind the Queen's coffin today, they left Buckingham Palace at exactly 2.22pm.

The royal family accompanied their matriarch on foot on the journey to Westminster Hall.

The exact reason for the timing has not been disclosed by the Palace, but there is speculation that it may have a biblical significance or be a tribute to the Queen's father King George VI.

After his death in 1952, bells tolled 56 times at Windsor - one for each year of his life - from 1.27pm until 2.22pm.

However, royal biographer Robert Lacey told MailOnline that the simple reason of ensuring the procession arrives at Westminster Hall at 3pm is likely to be behind the timing.

He said: 'It will have been carefully paced out. It is not plucked out of the air.

'And I am presuming that allowance will be made for the number of people who will walk behind.'

It is set to take the procession exactly 38 minutes to reach Westminster Hall, where a service led by the Archbishop of Canterbury will be held for 20 minutes before the Queen lies in state for four days.

The brooch features a trio of pearls placed in the center of a pave-set leaf. [One] close-up [image] shows that the piece appears to be made at least partly of yellow gold … We don’t have any provenance information on the brooch, but to my eye, it looks like a fairly recent creation.

First, as a tribute to honour the Queen. Seeing as the brooch belonged to the monarch, it’s likely Kate wanted to wear an item with a connection to her late grandmother-in-law.

Second, royals often wear pearl jewellery when in mourning. It’s a tradition that can be traced back to Queen Victoria.

Harry and Meghan's children Archie and Lilibet continue to be listed as 'Master' and 'Miss' on updated order of succession – despite technically being entitled to the titles under royal rules

Harry and Meghan's children are not listed as a prince and princess on the updated order of succession published by Buckingham Palace following the Queen's death.

As grandchildren of the reigning Monarch, the children of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are technically entitled to the titles. But in an updated order of succession under King Charles III - listed on the Royal website - Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, three, and his sister Lilibet, one, are listed as ‘Master’ and ‘Miss’.

During the explosive Oprah Winfrey interview, Meghan claimed officials had denied Archie the title of prince and denied him 24/7 security before suggesting the decision was due to him being mixed race.

The Sussexes indicated in the interview that they had expected Archie would become a prince but that they had been told that protocols would be changed in line with Charles’s wish for a slimmed-down monarchy.

The Royal Family website published an updated order of succession this week. While it shows that Archie and Lilibet have risen up the order of succession and are sixth and seventh in line to the Throne, it does not list them as prince and princess.

The Sussexes' friend and preferred journalist Omid Scobie wrote on Twitter: 'As son of the King, Harry’s children have the right to become HRH Prince Archie and HRH Princess Lilibet. Right now, however, the two are listed with their original stylings.'

According to rules set out by King George V in 1917, Archie and Lili - as the children of a son of a sovereign - would have an HRH style if they choose to use it.

The King's spokesman said the monarch had announced William and Kate's titles as the Prince and Princess of Wales, and expressed his love for Harry and Meghan in his address to the nation on Friday.

'While the website was updated for the Waleses, clearly updating love on a website doesn't quite work so we've not quite done that but clearly he does love them. We will be working through updating the website as and when we get information,' he said on Saturday.
